Hello all,
I am new to this forum and new to allotments.
I have been badgering my local council for years to provide allotment gardens and after getting over twenty interested people together and reminding the council of their duty to privide allotments, we are at last going to get some. They have allocated enough land down on the flood plain for 20 x 100 M sqauare lots. Well thats  a start as the soggy land problem can be overcome. but they are now saying that they will be charging in the reagion of £30 a monthfo each lot. This seems to me to be a bit over the top. Or is it? what is trhe average?
regards
Ginger

30.00 PER MONTH..my god, that's expensive, most councils are under 50.00 per year, what're you getting for that, ?
sorry, I forgot..welcome to the site, can't wait to see what everyone else says about this  ;D

emmak

Mines £15 a year with no amenities and I thought that was expensive, 6 miles away they are a pound a year...

Hi and welcome Ginger, your charges are HUGE (IMHO), as Manic said - check what you are getting. I would expect personal tap on my plot, free manure, the paths trimmed weekly at least.  Are you sure it wasn't an annual rental?  :)
If I ever get it all right - then that's the time to quit.

Welcome to the site Ginger,

as others have said, check what you are getting for that price,

I'd want someone to garden for me at that price :P/ shades x

Hi again,
Could be a misstake as the price stated was in the minutes of the council meeting, and we all know how efficient councils are.
I will ring the clerk in the morning and ask her to verify it. then I can take it further if necessary.
I just get the feeling that it could be true and part of the councils pl,an to make the scheme a flop.
they have continually expressed their objection to us busy bodies and trouble makers, (their words) insisting on them carrying out their duty to provide these plots. In fact the land they have provided is the worst possible, and I know from when I was on the council there is better more suitable land available.

Hi Ginge, most prices on this forum range fro about £20 to £80, I think your council are taking the pisss on purpose to make people lose interest. What do you get for your money, security,  water, sheds these questions need to be addressed. Ask around other local sights and councils and get there prices and embarrass your council into considering a price drop. I don't like the idea of it on a flood plain, considering the weather we've had this year, good luck.  ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

Hello shades,
My grand dad used to have 2 allotments in Lincoln in the 40's & 50's when we all lived in Cranwell Street. He was the signal man at the crossing in the High Street. Dad worked for Bainbridges which is no longer there.

Hello and welcome to A4A Ginger,
I hope for that price you get the deeds to the plot too.
That HAS to be the most expensive plot ever.  :o
£10 for half plot and £20 for a full plot is what we pay.
Next year I get mine for free as it was so bad.

Good luck, and lets hope somebody made a mistake in the minutes.

WHoa!   :o

As secretary on our association I proposed a rent increase recently and the members balked at raising the rent to £25 A YEAR!!    In the end they agreed to the rent increasing to £18 per year; taking into account that it hadn't risen in 7 years!

Cor! What we could do as an association with £30 a month from everyone!  New roads... new fencing... upgrade the water...  pay contractors to clean up disused plots before they're let to a new tenant... Build a site hut...  now I'm getting carried away with my pipe dreams!

Welcome to the site Ginger; you'll like it here  ;D
