Building a shed

Hi Guys,

End of next year i want to build myself a new shed with one wall brick with a fireplace and the other 3 sides wood and the roof made of corigated metal bolted into place.

Tenancy agreement limits me to a shed that shall not exceed 30 square feet in area, nor 7 feet in height.

I am able to get old wooden posts (tree posts) and i know there not in amazing condition but i though if i started collecting them next year i can collect enough to make a log cabin type shed.

I have been putting some though into how i put the whole thing together and i think its managable.

Anyone got any thoughs?

Sounds like a great project - I'd love to do this myself, but I wouldn't be able to because on our lotties no buildings can be permanant and we couldn't build the 'fireplace wall' as it would be considered a permanant construction.  Don't forget to check there's no such restrictions on your site

Also...  I bought a set of plans from a guy on evilBay on how to build loads of different types of sheds which I'd be happy to make available to you.

Most of them seem to be high school or uni construction projects, but they all look good and provide full instructions.

thanks su, yep your right about the perminant construction issue and thinking about it i would probably not use it. Thanks for the plans but i am considering taking a course on building strawbaled buildings and until i am sure what i am doing i am not going to get 2 excited with looking at plans  ;D

I had an ancient woodburning stove in the shed when I first had my plot; it was great until it developed so many holes that flames were shooting out.

Off subject of building a shed, but if you want some warmth on the allotment, why not construct some kind of fire pit?

If you have or can get hold of an old BBQ kit, the type that is basically just the ash tray with a grid for the charcoal and a cooking surface, and would normally be built into a brick structure. You dont have to build it properly with mortar and everything, just stack the bricks in the right dimensions around the metalwork using a couple of slabs as the base.

We threw one together in this fashion once when the OH's kids came to stay, it actually stayed there until it rusted away several years later.

Can I make a suggestion?
How about getting hold of an old washing machine drum adding some piping for legs and using that. We use to do that when we lived in Canada. Mind you the washing machine drums are alot larger than here; but I'm sure it will give the same effect and warmth. Good idea for using as an alternative to one of those galvanized bin burner thingies that rust after one season.
(Mine fell apart this year  ::))

not allowed open fires thats one of the reasons i cant have the stove in the shed but i am working on them to change it :)
