Hi all,
just got an update from the council and they say that it is a typo and that they are due to discus the rents at the next council meeting. I have asked to speak at that meeting. they were nottoo pleased with the prospect of me being there but I know I have a right to speak at any council meeting so I am going to get my tuppence worth in and not allow them to rush any exorbitant rates through.
I also intend to get them to make wheelchair access to my plot, which is also my right under the DDA 1995. not to be just bloody in any way but to get my own back on the councillors who said to me a long while ago that disabled people could not manage an allotment.
Think I'll go and get some hemp seeds from my aviary and scatter them over the council chairmans wall, wait for them to grow and then report him to the police for growing them.LOL. (only joking) :D

My rent was £36 for the coming year, so don't let them over charge you. Good luck!!
I'd rather be flying

Shushhhhhhhh!!

Don't tell our council last year ours worked out at just under £13 pa (approx £6 land £7 water or it might be the other way round) and wait for it...........................I get mine half price!!

posie

Hi there and welcome! Cripes I nearly keeled over with shock at that price! If it helps mine is £27 per year as its a larger plot - about 250sq metres I think I worked it out at, but my math's is not great lol.......let's just say a small pony could be quite happy on there lol  ;D
What I lack in ability and experience, I make up for in sheer enthusiasm!!!

20x100mtrs  seems very large most plots are 50x10 so in 20x100 you will have 4 average plots ..Thats some land to cultivate   :)  stilll pricey though ..
Cheers .. Jim

antipodes

hmm they are surpisingly cheap in the UK ! I have 100 m2, 5m x 20m and I pay 69 euros a year or about 45-50 pounds. Ours are not run by the council though.
Yeah, let's stand up for our right to grow our own veg in our towns!! And cheaply at that!!! You tell 'em Ginger  :D
btw our allotment has a special part for diabled people, a large raised bed with curved sections so they can get close with a wheelchair. It looks great, they are from a local association and they have grown courgettes, beans, flowers, and a few other things. Why shouldn't everyone enjoy growing, as much as their physical shape allows them to?
2012 - Snow in February, non-stop rain till July. Blight and rot are rife. Thieving voles cause strife. But first runner beans and lots of greens. Follow an English allotment in urban France: http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com

Off topic: Antipodes, please can you let me know what the French call an allotment?  Was having lunch with a  Belgian chap yesterday who didn't believe the French had allotments anyway :)
