rabbit's cage

I know there are already posts on here about what to paint chicken pens in, but what about a rabbit's cage? Ours is untreated, but not very easy to clean because of that... Also what's best to clean it with once in a while?

clean with Jeyes diluted and let dry... i would use a pet safe creosote/wood stain. but not creosote in this case.  which reminds me mine needs doing
