Tomato Cuttings

My first tomatos that were sown in January are looking a little tired and scraggy, I have another crop that are not too far behind (I may pull them up next weekend), my 3rd and 4th crops are fruiting now. I'm going to take cuttings from the 1st & 2nd crops, but the growing tips look good, have you tried taking cuttings from these?

there was a thread about taking tom cuttings from the main stem rather than sideshoots, tho I can't remember what the conclusion was. I guess they'd be more vigorous. Cuttings from sideshoots are easy as pie. tho you may find that cuttings from older leggy plants produce new leggy plants, like cuttings from older busy lissies

Biscombe, I took the growing tips of some of my leggy toms and potted them up. They all took and look really healthy, but I will have to wait and see if i get any sort of crop from them.

Cheers you tow! will give it a go! I normally have success with side shoot chootings, bot never growing tips, will give it a go now, thanks  ;D

Hi rosie here are two pics of cuttings from my toms.I put them on water for a week and as you can see on the pics they have made nice new roots,ready for potting up into the soil.
