On our allotment if someone takes on a weedy plot it is rent free for the first year. Hope you had a good deal.

Iain - yours makes me fear for mine - half is covered with nipple-high nettles (I'm 6'1"). But the brush cutter will be in action tomorrow, along with black plastic and digging. I've managed to get a few beds planted up  since April (islands of tranquility in a rough and evergrowing sea of bindweed, brambles, nettles and annuals from hell), but this weekend I'm planning to tame the wilderness. Wish me luck.

Hi Iain,  Looks like you have a task on your hands, one step at at time, and it will also keep you fit.  Good Luck and enjoy.
Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you do criticise him, you are a mile away. And you have his shoes. !!!

My allotment measures 10m X 25m, but I dont know what that is in feet or hom many poles.
Can anyone help ?

Iain I don't wish to rub salt into the wound - but my friend and I have just taken over a double allotment and we expected it to look like yours but it was fab!  Apparently an Italian guy had it, and he disappeared, but left behind herbs, fruit trees, bushes and the most fantastic soft soil.  We did have one hairy moment when we found a shoe as we were digging and thought the missing Italian might be attached to it   :o - he wasn't, and it was pointed out to us by a dedicated lottie that it wouldn't have been all bad if he was in there because it would do the soil good!  Oh Yuck!  Wish you luck and it would be great if you kept posting photos so we could see your progress. :)
