My tomatillo's all germinated wonderfully and I have been growing them on and treating them much the same as tomatoes and peppers.  However, should I pinch out side shoots and train them as cordons, or can I leave them to their own devices?  And, do I feed the same as toms?

Dunno EJ -I thought that they were supposed to be tall, but mine are turning into little bushey things. They're flowering though.

They can get a bit `out of hand` if left alone. It`s a matter of looking and deciding if they could do with a bit of thinning. I am trying`Mexican Green Husk` this year-about three foot now with sturdy side shoots and loads of flowers.

Oh you two!  Mine are flowerless but big and bushy.  Oh well, there is time....there is...isn't there?

Hi e.j.,i got purple tomatillos as well, also got groundcherries and the are all family of the tomato and so they got the same need as a tomato.Tomatillos can grow to a height of 5 feet and more so the need a lot of feed.Mine are with there feet in well rotten horsemanure and they like it a lot.

Mrs Ava

Excellent Ruud.  Do you pinch off the side shoots then?  Better get mine into bigger pots and start feeding!  :o
