QuoteSome what..?

Oka. It's a fairly new kid on the block as far as allotments are concerned produces small potato-like tubers of pretty colours. For more information look at The Real Seed website http://www.realseeds.co.uk/unusualtubers.html

I'm trying them and the ullucus for the first time this year so cannot comment on their productivity. Mine are growing outside.

I have Oca too - well at least I have some as the slugs seem to have taken a liking to the tubers!!!  I also hoed off the tops of a couple before I remembered what it was!  They have resprouted now though!

Watch this space!

Looks interesting! Must remember that next year!

Here's some of my Oka growing quite nicely. Whether they will produce anything only time will tell.

I have occa too, I have the white one although I'd wanted one of the coloured ones but real seeds had sold out by the time I got around to ordering.   What colours do you guys have?

That's a bummer. I ordered one pack of each colour and got one pink and two red. I just assumed they ran out of white. I see some trading coming along soon.

Real Seeds Pink.... my only fear is that it may become as invasive as JA's...

I'd definitely be interested in doing a swap later on if mine produce a crop, will need to taste them first though to see if I like the taste.  Hope they're worth it as they have to stay in the ground quite a while to produce the tubers if I remember correctly.

Tin Shed

I have some white oca, doing well in a raised bed. So far, so good, but will have wait for the harvest.

Like late main potatoes Oca has a slow reaction to day length and will not start tuber production til say mid Sept and every week thereafter will increase yeilds but tops are frost sensitive hence got it in the G'house....
Also needs leaving exposed to light for a couple of days to reduce oxalic acid content before eating...
