Hi all, hubby is chopping down some conifers (yuk) that we inherited in our garden - can I use the slimmest branches as pea sticks?

I'm wondering if it might save us some money, but don't want to sacrifice our crop if they're no good - thought i might have read somewhere they secrete something nasty into the soil?  Thanks for any advice! x

They should be OK. Conifer needles don't make a good environment for plants to grow in, and the roots may inhibit other plants, but that would relate to live plants not dead sticks. A few needles dropping off the sticks wouldn't do any harm.
