My Mum always cooked our main meals with an aluminium pressure cooker.  However, both my parents ended up with Alzheimer's.    :'(  Now there is no actual proof that too much aluminium can cause this illness but I would never risk it.  They used to cook damsons, plums and rhubarb in their pressure cooker and also used it for jams!  Please Jenny, make sure that the one you buy is stainless steel.

I agree totally, I gave up using aluminium many years ago for food preparation, the two cookers I use for food are both stainless steel, The aluminuim one is just for pressure sealing  in glass jars, the food never comes into contact with the metal and I would  never cook food in it.  I have been very adamant about this for years. I don't own a  cooking pan that is aluminum. I have only stainless steel Padernos and  Le creuset.

I think this is very important.

Yes, indeed Pauline, always use stainless steel here, which is why I was interested in the Kuhn - would have been nice if the Presto was stainless though.

I have been reading these posts with interest.  I have always bottled without boiling the bottles after and now feel slightly unconfortable.  I think from now on I will be pressuring all my stuff.  Will have a look at what pressure cooker I do have as I don't use it often - I have only used it a couple of times to cook food and always seemed to burn everything.  I'm actually petrified of it to tell you the truth.  Heard horror stories of them blowing up etc.

But will try and be good and use it in future - especially with me now wanting to do tomatoes, etc.

If you can't be a good example -- then you'll just have to be a horrible warning....

Jitterbug, you don't need to use it do do your fruit etc,and don't panic, they are very safe if you follow your instructions. XX Jeannine
