I got a packet of seeds today that reads FI which is a hybrid, then it was described as an heirloom variety. I have never noticed this on a packet before and I am a bit puzzled

Sounds like an oxymoron to me...

I've seen varieties wrongly described as F1's before now; what is it?

QuoteCauliflower Sunset F1

One of the first orange varieties to become available. Performs best when used for September and October harvesting. Colour most pronounced when used for baby or mini vegetable, but colour still vibrant in full size heads. Small compact frame. Sow April and May
Heritage probably (wrongly imo) relates to it being one of the first.  Never heard of orange cauliflower myself. :-\
