New Potatoes for Christmas

I'm thinking about planting some potatoes later this year in old dustbins (or similar) in the greenhouse for harvesting as new potatoes for Christmas lunch. Has anyone got any good tips on this or suggest a good variety that will give me a fair crop?

I know - - who wants to think about Christmas on a warm sunny day?

See what Marshalls have as 'second croppers'? They're the ones we always use.  = Tim

Second thoughts - that wasn't very helpful. You can't buy small quantities. And we crop ours in the Autumn, not Xmas.

If you don't have your own, as Big G suggests, choose a few from the market. One assumes you would start chitting in about August??

I tend to chit a few of my earlies varieties.

I hang off  and select enough tubers from the last two or three plants, then chit them for around a month, before planting them up.

Am definitely going to try that this year, Gardener.  Will keep a few Maris Bard back and try it - will a plastic bucket do, when should they go in?  Will feel all virtous starting my Christmas planning early, am usually a last minute type.
