On my allotment site there are 22 plots.  Plots are now being cleared of pea and  bean haulms, and things like carrot tops.  Some plot holders are building them into heaps to burn, others like me are building compost heaps.   I think it is a waste to burn what can be composted.  What are the views of others on here?

compost, we're burning the corn stalks this year as they're full of potash, apparently..plus we burned blighted tomatoes  :)

Borlotti

Burnt some dried grass today and some lovely mares/horse tail but even though it was dry it did smoke a bit.  Have got a great heap so a bonfire is good, compost some but twigs etc. of redcurrant, blackcurrants bushes and brambles like to burn.

I compost pea and bean haulms, and carrot, parsnip, onion tops......only burn stuff that has bark on or anything very diseased.

I should have said I am burning anything with blight or the pernicious weeds.
