moral dilemma - guess who was asleep in my shed today?

When i first got my plot, the ex tenant was still hanging about. For those of you who never saw the post he had been using the shed to get drunk and smoke fags in, which probably would have been fine had he not neglected his plot as well. So after loads of turning up with the girls and finding him there half cut and rambling about his dads wheelbarrow and asking for advice here i asked the committee to have a word as i did feel quite sorry for him and didn't want to upset him any more - he'd already lost his refuge etc. Haven't seen him for ages, but true to louise stellas prediction, i hadn't seen the last of him. Past few days he's been back, although not to our plot i thought - this afternoon my dad found him flat out and snoring on the shed floor!
Here we go again... ::)

Awwwww, i remember your initial posts and your caring attitude towards him, it really struck me xxx

Sorry to hear its not been resolved yet.

Did the committe acutally speak to him after you had addressed the prpblem to them?

Jeannine

You know this really is not funny is it, you need to be doing something about him now I think or it just going to go on and one. Maybe when he is drunk his feet just sort of take him there.

I think if I found somebody drunk onthe floor of my shed I would have to call the police. It sounds mean but you just can't walk around him all summer.

It has to be an awful dilemma though, I fel bad for you.

Whatever his problem is Emmy,it's not your problem. You've been really patient with him and I think you are fab for that. I think the committee needs to be firmer with him and shoo him away.

emmy1978

I know!! Gaagh! Go away!
I think the committee did speak to him, although they are very nice, quiet, polite people so may have been too tactful to have any effect.
I'm so glad my dad found him not me coz i think i'd have gone mad actually, especially as i have girls with me more often than not - going down there alone a luxury! My dad told him it's not on and i hope that's that. Zero tolerance now. Was ok at first while he was getting used to it, but it's been a while now and that just takes the pee i thought. I've been thinking about it and imagining finding him there, I'd probably have thought he was dead! Anyway, there you go, must stop piffling on. Now i'm worried about all my little plants and the stuff i've sowed. Sure a fellow allotmenteer wouldn't do anything to harm my stuff but a drunken ramble across the plot? Nooooo!  :-[ :-[ :-[ Going down there first thing to reccy. Fingers crossed!

Emmy, it's worrying >:( Praps think about buying yourself one of little alarms that give out a v.v.vloud high pitched sound when you press them? The one I have is made by Protectatech and cost about £4 or so I think...one blast of that & it'd stop him snoring if nothing else ;)

sarah

oh no what a total drag. i really feel for you and the others are right its not on. my initial thoughts would be to call the rozzers but... could you dad maybe give him a bit of a warning? i dont mean anything violent obviously but just a man to man sort of thing? your right the comittee are a bit flimsy.

emmy1978

The fuzz will be getting called if i find him there. Hoping my dad had the man to man chat yesterday. It was actually my dads wife that found him and got a bit of a fright i think, so dad would certainly have told him in no uncertain terms!!
Alishka, I had one of those alarms when i worked in Brum, certainly make you feel a lot safer. I don't think i need one for him, although may come in useful for waking him up as you say!  ;D
ah well, off down there shortly, will see what we find.  :-\

It would frighten the bloody life out of me if I found someone in my shed. Can you put a lock on it. I think I asked before why has this person still in possession of a site key when he's not paying rent for a plot. You really shouldn't have to put up with this Emmy. I think you have given him enough rope. Nows the time to be more forcefull and tell him straight that you will call the old bill if he continues to tresspass on your rented property. I hope you have more luck than the allotment commitee of yours had. I think they need hanging out to dry.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

manicscousers

also, emmy..you don't know what he's like when he's drunk, he might start peeing in the shed, it has been known, I have students for sons ..try to sort it out, matey..you have the littlies to think about  ;D

ellkebe

Emmy - it sounds as though you've been incredibly understanding about this.
In many ways this should actually be the committee's problem and not yours. I agree with the question about the site key and would raise that with the committee again, while 'pondering out loud' what their liability is in the case of any  threat or injury to you or yours.
Really hope this all gets sorted quickly.

kitten

Emmy, sorry to hear your prob has returned, i did think at the time that the softly softly approach might not be successful but had everything crossed for you :(

Anyway..... you need this to be sorted once and for all (imagine what might happen if your kiddies went running in there & found him snoring away, or worse...) so please make sure the committee have spoken to him, and if you find him there again make it plain you won't tolerate it.

As already said, his problems shouldn't be your problems.

Good luck & take care x

emmy1978

didn't see anyone from committee today. Turns out my dad gave him a right bollo**ing, so i'm hoping that will stop him from coming back. If not i will certainly just call police if i find him there again. The girls do run off ahead of me so i am worried they'll find him first. I have warned them though and said they are to come straight back to me etc.
I'm not really worried for my safety, according to the lottie neighbour, who once found him so drunk he had to drag him out of shed and drive him home, he's not aggressive but mournful. Was raised in Birmingham pubs by landlord parents and ran them with my mum up until '98 so drunk guys i can handle!! ::)
Honestly, if you knew me, you would know it is so me for this to happen!! Only i can get an allotment with resident drunkard. Have said to everyone else on the site that the shed is £20 a night, cup of tea included. Well, it's near the beach, ish!
Thanks for listening anyway, it's very helpful to have your opinion on matter!  :-*
