Look what I just found!  I sent him Craven Strain Sunflowers already.  There is even information about them on my website.  Why would be have a need to contact Norm Craven?  Norm is one of the best giant growers in the world.  Norm also has seeds to many giant plants besides sunflowers.   Looks like our little friend is up to his old tricks again.

Whew! Wish I'd half his energy ::) ;D

A spin-off from this, tho, is that you've opened my eyes to the completely unknown world, to me, of the Giant growers. I never knew that such a small(?) specialised world existed til now.....your Jala maize for instance, S-I? That the provenance for seeds currently on offer can be traced right back to yourself (if I understood correctly?)...now that's truly fascinating to me...

OK, this is gonna be my last post. I'm sorry for what I've done, I'm turning over a new leaf. Brian - I was only gonna email him asking if he had any tips on growing them - is that so hard to think about? Could we please now stop posting on this thread - I have apologised and the case is closed. Thanks

Thank you all so much, esp Jeannine & Lishka, for getting to the bottom of this.  I was suspicious of this character from day one.  It's restored my faith in my own gut instinct! x

Jeannine, we'll have to rename you 'Little'n'Large'  ;D

Jeannine

I also bought 'Wee Be Little' pumpkins on the same order!!!

I must be losing it you know, I don't even like butternut particularly, this was one for the kids.

I'm with you Kitten - something was off, just couldn't put my finger on it.....

Anyway as this is a sunflower thread - I have sowed 72 sunflowers seeds - and they have all germinated - oo er missus! I think that will be enough for one lottie. ;D

Glad it's back to sunflowers.........  we got some free from a supplier's mailing and all have germinated and are in 3" pots about 2" tall.  Have taken them out of the greenhouse and they are in the mini one (flaps up squadron leader!) next step please?
If I ever get it all right - then that's the time to quit.

SMP1704

Take them out of the mini during the day - then gradually leave out overnight - but somewhere that the munchers can't easily reach.

Keep well watered, keep your eye on the roots and plant out early/mid May or when frosts are not a threat in your area.

Happy growing

Roots are beginning to peek so I'd better pot them on into something bigger.  No garden dining at the moment - all my hardening offs are up on the table, no munchers up there at all!  ;D ;D ;D
