Chrysanthumums

Does any one know how to take cuttings from Chrysanthumums ( I know I have spelt it incorrectly. I`ve had some wintering in the green house and they  have thrown up side shoots.  I thought if I break these off  put rooting compound on them and stick them in potting compost they should grow!!! 2days later they look very poorly. I still have some more that I could use so please does anyone know what I should or  should`nt be doing for sucess.

i believe what you're doing is correct goodgourd2, but have you tried a little bottom heat?
it can also take a few weeks for anything to happen!
good luck though, don't give up.

I use live sphagnum moss for taking cuttings (brill stuff). Cut the cutting below a node, the cuttings I use range from an inch to 2 inches. Insert in the moss & put in the heated propagater. They root in a couple of weeks and I transfer to 3 inch pots before potting on again. 100% success so far. If you have no sphagnum add 50% of vermiculite/perlite to your normal compost & use this instead.
