LETTER TO PARENTS FROM THE HEADMASTER OF ALFIE'S SCHOOL:

"Dear parents, We have received the official report following our recent Ofsted inspection. A letter from *** ***, the Lead Inspector, to all children is printed on the back of this letter, and a copy of the report is attached. Unfortunately, poor proof-reading has left a few typing errors - we've crossed out words that have been left in by mistake, but please note they are Ofsted's mistakes, not ours.

We believe that the inspector's emphasis on the need for more formal literacy sessions is misguided. We will not allow our core values to be diluted or compromised by Ofsted's inappropriate and harmful obsession with SATS scores"

They gave the school low scores because A high % of intake is immigrant and reading/writing skills are obviously behind SATS schedule

OFSTED'S TYPOS!

DESCRIPTION OF THE SCHOOL: INCLUDING MIXED NATIONALITY INTAKE REPORT

"An increasing number are arriving mid term with unable to speak English"

THE LETTER TO CHILDREN FROM *** ***(LEAD INSPECTOR)

She would probably be better inspecting lead (the metal) than literacy in schools

"There are two things to help your school even better. We have asked your headteacher to think about how you learn to read and write. You can help him by trying really hard. A few of you of you miss lots of school .."

You and you and you and you. OFSTED ... try HARDER!

Absolutely for real Bennets. I have it here on front of me alongside the number for the Times Educational Supplement newsdesk - they're never averse to a bit of OFSTED bashing. There are other mistakes in there as well ...

Oh, and I've just phoned Private Eye newsdesk and they have HUNDREDS of people reporting 'OFSTED' funnies all the time. Not groundbreaking news then, obviously? EVEN SCARIER!

oftsted  >:( >:(   i,v cleaned in schools in the past and i,v seen the stress the whole school is under. i,v seen teachers take loads of things home and bring it back(nice tidy classroom) kids get bribed (treats for good behaviour) i,v known a headteacher have 6 weeks off with stress and they got a good report that year!! when it,s all over the kids settle down to learn again what a sham
marg ???
Tell me and I,ll forget
Show me and I might remember
Involve me and I,ll understand

It is a sham Marg  :(

The head @ Alfie's school is very anti-OFSTED but before the inspection the teachers were still running round like headless chickens 'preparing' for it.

If I was the head I'd just say BUM to it and let them come and inspect on a normal day with no preperation.

You can't 'measure' schools like that. It's crazy!

I wonder how many parents look at OFSTED reports before they send their kids to a nursery/primary school anyway - or any other school for that matter?

I'M ON ME SOAPBOX ... CAN YOU TELL  ;D

I've just realised I've spelt 'received' wrong in the title of this thread  ;D How ironic is that :D Hope I don't get an OFSTED inspection!

OFSTED should be stood in the corner wearing a dunce's cap. The lates TES reports that HALF the appeals against their judgements, and there haven't been many yet, have been upheld, showing that a significant proportion of what they say about schools is plain wrong. There have been scandals about reports which were cut and pasted from what they wrote about other schools, and all sorts of rubbish.

That ofsted report sounds terrible!  I think the inspector needs reporting... As far as i am aware schools get hte call on a friday and ofsted are in on the monday!

Which reminds me i have work to do for ofsted - Libraries are now included in ofsted inspections - arggghhhh!  One of our governors is an ofsted inspector which is quite handy at times, not so handy at others lol.

surely the migrant children should have their SEN needs met by the school which shuold have been reflected in the report rather than useless comments - like try harder! durrr! Honestly it is beyond belief how this country is run!

Robert_Brenchley

That's OFSTED for you, unfortunately. So far I've ben involved with three different schools which were 'failed'. In all three cases, they had kids who didn't fit the system well, either because they were immigrants with English as a second language, or because of a very mobile population, or because they were taking kids from working class areas where a lot of parents had a bad time at school, and don't know how to relate to it. None of that made any difference at all, and I've seen some really good heads lose their jobs. In another case, where discipline in the school really had broken down, they sacked the Head, quite rightly that time, and left the deputy in charge of discipline in post! All the publicity associated with OFSTED 'failures' leads to heads becoming scapegoats, while little attention is paid to what's actually going on in the school. Unsurprisingly, one result is that very few people are willing to become heads, and they can't fill posts.

The head at the school we chose for my eldest daughter was very anti OFSTED. She wanted her school to be a happy place where everyone learnt at their own pace, no pressure, lots of respect and good manners etc. She had the philoshopy that it was more important in life to learn to care about others and the world around you, than to get fantastic SATS results.

She got ousted by the Govenors who wanted to "improve the educational standing of the school" and employed this truely foul woman, who treated our children as statistics and refused to meet any of the parents as she was "too busy".

As a result I moved my daughter to another school and so did loads of other parents. There were only 210 pupils and we worked out that at least 5 children from each year left that term, and even more after that.

The trouble was, the ones that left were the children who had the parents that cared about the school. We did all the organising & fund-raising, helped out with swimming, and reading in class, all the sorts of things that benefit a school. So their OFSTED induced obsession of trying to make the school better, actually had the oposite effect, as now there's no-one there who cares what kind of school it is and what it has to offer their children.

Twenty years of our old head's dedecation and love gone in one term. They will propably never get back the reputation of the lovely, caring village school that they had for so long.
