I've got some calabrese plants in fibre pots. They are looking fine, about 3 inches high. Does anyone know when would be the best time to plant them out. They are not pot bound yet.

Thanks

Are they under cover.  If you have a cold frame you could grow them on a bit more in and leave them in the cold frame to aclimatise.

As Grant says, when they are 'acclimatised' (hardened off), they can go out any time so long as they have 5-6 leaves.

Thanks. They are in the conservatory, so I will start hardening them off.

Do you have any bell cloches (the cheap - well, fairly - plastic ones)? Put them in place for a day or first, then plant out the calabrese. If in doubt, pot them on: I overwinter mine in 3" pots in the frame, then move them into 4" pots for a bit. They seem to like the extra boost of fresh compost.

Until they get too big, I could always use my very expensive pop bottle cloches ;D
