Infected compost

Hi All,
Probably a question that has been answered before, but i cannot find it on the search.  I have been given some old gro bags that had tomatoes in, I think the tomatoes had some kind of damp rot, as they were not in sun all the time, and had a little grey fur around the bottom of the stem.  Will the compost be infected, and therefore not usable again, or can I top up my beds with it?

There is no way of telling really but I wouldn't use it anywhere near where you are going to grow tomatoes or potatoes in case it is affected.

Otherwise I would say it is ok to use elsewhere in the garden.

I riddle/seive mine and use it for root crops such as carrots & parsnips. i.e, I form a 'V' trench and fill it with the compost, soak it then then sow the seed.
