......on finding an ages old pack of dried peas in the drawer. This is meant to offer encouragement to any doubters.

Pea soup? Of course. But they don't look green!! So you boil them up - & they do!!

But when you discard that water & re-boil, all the skins shed & they look really grotty!!

But nil desperandum - after the stock etc, they whizzed up beautifully. We happenned to have a little ham juice from yesterday but, for bouquet garni I had to use some fresh Oregano & dried (SHAME!) Parsley.

I'm sure you've tried this already, but I found years ago that flat leaved parsley survives the winter better than curled (East Sussex, admittedly), so I've been picking fresh parsley right through the winter, and it is growing away like mad at the moment (yes, it will flower quite soon, but I am sowing more and usually achieve overlap).

I don't know what has happened but, for the first time in history, we lost ours (we normally only grow the flat), in addition to 4 Sage plants. Serves me right for grubbing the old 3' bush before the others established! Wife is NOT pleased. Two new Sage put in last Autumn have just sat there - gloomily!

And we normally have BAGS of it in the freezer but, sod's law, just when we really need it - zilch.

Very difficult - trying to be perfect!!

Your soup looks delicious,I'm inspired to have a go.

Whilst reading your post Tim and looking at your picture, my daughter happened to come over. She asked me to print her a picture of the soup. When asked why she said she wants to take it to the chickens and hang it up in their shed !   ???

I am quite amazed that I still have flat leaf parsley growing strong on my allotment. It has survived the winter...and the hens. The one I had in a pot at home didn't fair so well...the Guinea Pig got to it!

Might they not have preferred this ......?
