PILs who have a plot on the same site as us have been given 60+ rasberry canes by a couple who have just taken on a plot....& they dont need that many....so weve got half ;D ;D ;D.......however my fruit section is unlikely to be fully planned & even less likely to be cleared this year as most of that end of the plot is under a 4 ft high pile of old compost & various other mystery fruit bushes which I dont want to move until I know what they are! PILs have temporarily covered thie roots on the disused end of their plot but Im guessing I need to plant them in something fairly soon....but I am wondering what I can do with them this season to make sure they survive, produce fruit & then survive the move to their new home...which might not be until next spring/summer

Im thinking pots - but tbh thats a guess  ???...any ideas please

Thanks

You could put them in big pots... large black buckets can be got cheaply and use the soil from that big heap, just riddle (Seive) it to make sure no nasty roots like couch go in as well. About 5 canes to each bucket should keep them for a year, a handful of Growmore of Blood/Fish and Bone would help.... you could plant them and then move them but sometimes you just end up with twice as many... why do you think people have 60 to give away...

Are they Autumn or Summer varieties?

Good cos you can cut them right down at the end of the season, so no pratting about with which canes to cut or save!
;D

That much I did know about raspberries so yes I am very pleased they are autumn ones!

Off to scour the local freecycle group for buckets!

saz, try morrisons or asda, they either sell or give the buckets away, the ones they get the flowers in  :)
