Runner/climbing beans

Is it best to grow runners/climbing beans up individual canes, or use that 4" square mesh netting?

If canes, wigwams or straight rows?

Over the past few years we have grown runners and climbing beans up wigwams in the garden (only just got the allotment), because we grew them in cut down blue plastic barrels which I acquired from work, and found it easy to get all round them for picking. The only downsides are the height they get to using 7' canes, and the need to water frequently as they tend to dry out.

Some like mesh, I don't - too fussy to disentangle.
Wigwams are pretty in a small garden but they cannot, surely, be as productive as rows, where each plant has room to expose itself?

I'm with Tim on this one

The easy bit is growing them, the hard bit is untangling the twisted stems.

If you use net you might end up 'binning' it when you have finished it gets a bit frayed and so did my temper when I once tried using it.

Have seen on a telly prog someone using bike wheels and sturdy pole.  bottom wheel had all spokes taken out and the top wheel fixed to top of pole and wire or string threaded to bottom wheel and the beans then grown up them..
