Have just put in oven a bread & Butter Pudding using 1/2 stale french loaf.  It makes it really light and fluffy compared to using other bread.

Have you got a recipe to use it up  ??? ??? ???

brush lightly with milk and pop in the oven for a few minutes - it comes up great - like freshly baked!

Need to re ask question - should be what other recipes do you have to reuse stale french bread? ???

Just eating the B&B pudding and it is light and fluffy just right but wanted other recipes that I can use with left over FB   ???
sorry for the mix up in question :(

I was talking about the french bread too.  Brush stale french bread with milk and warm in oven and it tastes like freshly baked french bread instead of the cardboard taste that it started out as.

other than that, maybe make some croutons for soups on these cold, wet evenings?

In a sloppy veg- or pulse-based soup -

Tear (don't cut) FB apart longways, place skin side down on grill.
Grill briefly, drizzle with olive oil, pop in soup bowl
You can also sprinkle on a little over-aged grated Parmesan or other hard cheese.
Ladle soup over bread in bowl. Leave just as long as it takes to get it to the table before wolfing :)

Sous-crostini tim? ;D

When I was a ween and felt under the weather we used to have bread-and-milk - pour boiling milk over stale crusts. I loved it then, but couldn't face it now :-\

Oh! Have you ever made Brown Bread Ice Cream? You can make it with FB! - Whizz up in blender, then make according to recipe e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/womanshour/food/recipe77.shtml

Cut it into slices, lightly toast then rub one side of the toasted bread with a cut garlic clove and top with tapenade - guaranteed to keep vampires away!

I make variations on bread pudding, and its usually eaten cold here in slices - no fat used.
Using a 2 litre glass bowl. Tear bread into small pieces and thoroughly mix with pieces of apple, chop 2, and couple handfulls of sultanas and tablespoon brown sugar. Add milk in small amounts until all moist but not sloppy. Press the mix down with your fingers to make sure its nice and firm and all moist. Sprinkle a little of the sugar on top. Bake in oven until top is nice and crispy. Have done variations using chopped dates, also mincemeat, also chopped dried apricots. The dried apricots and date ones work well when using up old wholemeal bread.
