did anyone watch it last night? Very interesting, but how much tomato paste did the woman have to eat every day (for 3 months?). I missed that bit

I only caught the last 40 minutes. Very interesting about the spinach. I often wonder about the UV rays from my computer. Will have to grow LOADS of spinach ;D ;D

the tomato bit was just as impressive. The woman had her skin tested with UV before and after the trial, and they found that UV skin damage was more than 10% less after 3 months on the tomato paste. I missed how much she had every day tho. I was paying attention enough to notice that she was eating it, and not slapping in on as a sunblock  :D

I think it was about 35 gms.  Looked like a tablespoonful.

The spinach thing was interesting but I'm glad that kale and egg yolks contain the stuff too as there are limits to my appetite for cooked spinach.  Love it in salads in spring and summer though.

I'll bet the fact that they proved detox diets don't work is going to upset a lot of people who have paid out serious money to health farms etc.

I thought it was 55g per day; surely there are nicer ways to take it than in paste form?! I woudn't mind eating fresh tomatoes, how many fresh would equal that amount of paste concentrate?!

I laughed at Lisa Tarbuck's wine experiment...I think most people know they get tipsy quickly on an empty stomach, even if they don't know the scientific explanation for it!

I'm glad the detox theory was debunked too.......never been tempted myself!! ;D

I thought it was about 50g also, and I reakon you would be surprised how much tomato you do eat - if you like them.    ;D  We eat a meal with a tomato base at least weekly - these toms are concentrated as they were home grown, then roasted down in the oven before blitzing and freezing.  Plus, we have tom concetrate in curries and things as I like the thickening it provides, and I love the taste.  Also, we probably eat the equivalent of a tom a day throughout the year.  Probably the reason I don't burn.

Very interesting about spinach, kale and egg yolk.  I told my grandad who has just had his catarracts done.    I loves my greens anyhow, so we eat lots, and now I have yet another reason the encourage the children to eat their greens.

Most interesting for me, the red wine!!  So, black grapes contain whatever it was, which helps clear the fat deposits out of your arteries, thus reducing the risk of heart disease.  So, red wine made in the traditional way, from grapes grown at a high altitude are on my menu from now on.

The active ingredient in tomatoes works best when cooked though raw tomatoes are good in other ways.   Cooked toms are supposed to be good for things like prostate cancer too.

I do an occasional detox but it's more a case of eating loads of fruit and veggies than punishing myself with a juicer and starvation.   It helps to shift a kilo or two after Xmas and hols but that's all.

I hope that good stuff pops up in broccoli too as it's Possum's favourite veg and she doesn't like cooked toms except in Bolognese sauce.
