Hi All,

Can anybody recommend somewhere I can purchase a relatively cheap connection kit (butt to butt), I have seen some advertised for £14 which seems very expensive, I considered DIY but are unsure about necessary fittings etc.. Cheers

I use old pieces of hose, as a syphon (which also makes disconnection possible and easy).

Total cost - nothing. (My favourite charge :D)

Thanks Derek, only one butt has a tap so I was hoping to connect them near to the base thus enabling equal filling, therefore equal draw off, would this be possible if using siphonage?

Yes, the syphon will ensure that the liquid level remains constant across the two butts.

I have my 2 butts conected by using a cistern overflow kit from b&q only cost 3 or 4 quid.Just drilled a hole big enough for the pipe.On one side you have the pipe and a rubber washer and on the other side a nut to tighten it up.It worked perfectly well last year when one fills up it then overflows into the next one.

Thanks to you both, 2 very useful suggestions.

Im with Derek
A piece of hose 4' long will do everything you need and maintain level water as long as the bottom of the hoses do not get uncovered. I have daisy chained over 10 barrels this way and only take water from the end barrel

I use hose the same as Derek and have 3 butts connected

I used the connectors at about 4 quid and then the price shot upto about £14

was considering diff levels (heights) of the join as a full butt fills your watering can quicker but as I diverted the water from the roof of the house It gushes in faster that all three taps can handle!!! when it rains hard.

Have done it with cheap hose connectors and washers cut from welly boots. :D
