A friend bought me 6 little primrose plants from the farmer at our local market as a treat! Will be nice to have something a little cheerful to look at while I continue chopping bramble. :)

Farmer man said they needed some help with drainage since I have clay soil, so the roots don't rot or something like that. He said to throw in some gravel but I don't have any. Will sand do? I have bags of sand from a friend for my shed base.

I don't know about the sand....but what I would say is I grow primulas in the garden, and they seed all over the place, and my garden is currently a swamp and they love it.  You often see them in boggy places also....don't you?

Fork the sand into the bottom of the planting hole, something is better than nothing.

Same here, my clay soil is pretty boggy and the primroses seem to do ok. Have a lovely little clump in a pot at present, very cheerful to look at.

Thanks guys. :) Going to put them in today.
