Can I still eat these potatoes?

Hi

Probably a bit of a silly question, BUT. I was clearing out two large tubs today that I had used to grow early potatoes in last spring. I never actually harvested them as I went away at a crucial time and they were left un watered for a couple of weeks. When I returned all the foliage had died back and the compost had completely dried out. I assumed the worst and put them to one side and forgot about them. That is until today when I started emptying the tubs out, only to find around 8lb of spuds. They certainly look ok, but would they still be alright to use, or should I just dispose of them?

Many thanks, Steve

Don't appeared to have, although I did see some growth from the tubs a couple of weeks back but this has now gone. Certainly found no rotten spuds.

They should be fine to eat .. New potatoes used to be buried in dry peat to store them ..
Cheers .. Jim

Hi SouthernSteve,

At the lottie this weekend one of the more 'experienced' chaps showed me six rows of spuds he's left in over winter and told me to help myself to a row. I dug them up, not expecting much, only to fill half a sack with absolutely perfect spuds - had some for dinner last night and they were delicious! So if yours look okay I'd say go for it!!

Cheers,
Rob ;)

Great. Many thanks. Just as well I checked the compost before just duping it round my raspberries.
