Finally took a couple of bad photos of the plot

Here is the plot of land that I've been allocated - amazingly this looks good compared to how it looked when we first got hold of it. Should be cleared by this weekend, as we had a really good run at it this weekend.


As you can see from the photos there is a LOT of grass all around - not just our plot. We seem to be at the end of the lottie plot that has been left alone for a long time!!

I've ordered a LOAD of weed membraine on ebay - 50 Metres by 2 metres, so that should cover almost all of it  8)

I've gone with the hack and slash at the back, so cleared all of the bramble that is growing through the fence, I discovered what I THINK is 5 gooseberry bushes, they are certainly spikey enough!!! I've chopped them right back so that I could clear the area well, but I think they'll come back just fine ;D

Other goodies that I've found on the allotment (mostly hidden under bramble) are:

• Water Butt (sadly split, but making a good bin for all the nasty non-decomposable stuff we are finding)
• Compost bin (of the plastic variety, not really what I want, but more than suitable for now)
• About 50 metres of hose!! EXCELLENT. We have hose points dotted around the lottie plots, and this will reach perfectly!
• Incinerator - which we already had a fire in to clear the brambles - kept us lovely and warm whilst we were drinking coffee from the thermos and having our rolls for lunch
• 4 or 5 pallets, which will be more than suitable for little projects ;)
• Canes for the peas or beans
• 10 metres of so of weed membraine, annoying cause I just bought some, but I'll always need more ::)

Still not bad for a weekend of work eih!!


I even starting planting things this weekend, a little late really - but the giant onion seeds are planted in pots in the bathroom (warmest room in the house) and hopefully they'll do well - I'm about a week late on the planting I think... Still I have a lot of onion sets arriving soon, with the potatoes... I also have a wealth of seeds that I'm not late for ;)

Not bad for a weekends work. Dont envy you at the moment. Most of us have all been there though. The early fun is getting it how you want.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Great stuff, your plot looks really 'hillocky' (is that a word?); is that just an optical illusion due to different lengths of grass, or has it been deliberately cultivated like that in the past? ? Raised beds previously?

Yeah it is "hillocky" all the plots at my side of the allotment seem to raise towards the fence - but there are furrows up and down the land and unexplained hills of soil and compost.

I plan on flattening it pretty much, as we are going to use raised beds on the lottie - don't want to dig any more than I have to though!

I've yet to uncover anything of use on the plot - plant wise - apart from the gooseberry bushes. But I live in hope. Hopefully if I do find something I won't damage it whilst I'm "going at it"  :P

Parts of mine were quite hillocky when I started - not as much so as yours - but I found it was very easy to even out the levels as I dug it over.
