I got half a dozen packets of seeds from Secret Santa at work for xmas but I don't think I'll be able to grow the melon or the aubergine. judging by the instructions on the backs of the packets they need to be grown in a greenhouse so that the temperature is high enough for them, unless anyone can tell me better.

if anyone would like the seeds they're more than welcome: the melon is 'Edonis' F1 hybrid and the aubergine is a white variety called 'Mohican' F1 hybrid.

Why don't you give it a try :)? One of my allotment neighbours grew aubergines successfully  without protection last year and a type of cucumberlike melon too. I'll be trying melons and aubergines outside this year for the first time (I'm in London).

it's very tempting but I think it might be early days to be trying 'exotic' things! as a newbie with only one bed partially dug it's going to be basics (potatoes, carrots, peas, beans, etc.) for the first year. I think I'd rather stick to the 'easy' stuff and have something to eat in a few months time rather than fail to grow melons and aubergines ;)

I've also had a couple of people very kindly offer me things to help get me started and I'd like to offer something in return ;D

would you like the seeds, or do you already have some?

I already have melon seed and a type of  black Ukranian aubergine, but my husband would like me to grow the white ones, so yes I'm interested in the aubergine seed.
Are you looking for any seed? I have lots of different things, just let me know!

PM me your address and I'll pop the aubergine seed in the post to you this afternoon. thanks very much for the offer of a swap but I've got more than enough to get me started!!!
