Used NTL for 9-10years. No problems there. Been good service. Heard of others having problems with talk talk and Tiscali also similar problems apparently - though I have no experience of these personally.

I've used Tiscali for several years with no problems. I don't use my Tiscali mailbox but get it to forward to my own domain, which is hosted in Germany.

If one reads the technical press on these subjects:

1)   Tiscali - the worst ISP provider.
2)   Talk Talk - Only 60% of customers are receiving anything like an acceptable
      service.
I would advise, don't touch either of them.

If you are unhappy with Talk Talk then you will be really depressed if you use Orange I was on Orange for the years contract, during that time it only worked 9 weeks. They would not sort out the problems and they insisted that I pay up to the end of my contract. So now I`ve dumped them and am looking for a new provider anyone out there got any recommendations?

I left AOL and went to Tesco.net. Ther is nothing flash about the opening page as it is all BBC news,
sport etc, but its plenty speedy and have had no probs in few months i have had it. They also do there own security for 50p a month  which is optional

Well - I can tell you a few horrors:

1.    Orange, Wanadoo, and Freeserve (all now use the same email servers, as bought by Orange). Unfortunately, due to poor administration by them, any emails you send are identified as spam, as the servers are now blacklisted.

2.     NTL - Cambridge area don't touch them - quality of support non existant. My experience with over 50 NTL installations is that they only support very simple setups. If you have a problem with anything else, then forget it.

3.    Tiscali - still billing me, over 2 years after I cancelled the contract. The quality of service offered was very poor.

4.    Talk Talk hasn't really shown any particularly plus aspects, but the 2 installations by them that I've dealt with haven't really caused problems. If you're worried about the security of any particular apect of their system, then make sure that you protect your system appropriately. Raw performance has been quite good, but I secure any network that I work with. With NTL, I've been able to sniff packets relating to 20+ different systems on the same network.....which means the bandwidth is being wasted. Morale of the story - don't trust your ISP!

5.    AOL has always struck me as being very over the top with the amount of software that they install on your system. However, I'm starting to warm to them. There support has been quite good, and you don't actually need to use it all.

I'm a Cambridge based IT consultant, and install/work with a home network problem on average 3-4 times a month, so I guess I've got a reasonable amount of experience with various ISPs.

I guess that I ought to mention that I'm with BT on a BT phone line.

Reason for this is that I'm fed up with having to get bouced between the BT staff and the ISP provider. At least with both of them being BT, then it is clear that the problem is BTs if something goes wrong.

Dont know about talk talk, but have been with my current ISP, Pipex, for nearly four years now and can happily recommend them. Good reliable linespeed and helpful technical people on the odd occasions that I have needed to contact them. ;)

I was with talk talk for 3 months and couldent stand them no longer. There customer service is zero as is everything else.

A word of warning though i cancelled my contract with them and despite them not charging me the cancellation fee they still tried to obtain the direct debit from my account. Somake sure you personally cancell it at the bank.

If your thinking of moving ISP's www.adslguide.org is a good site with some very good forums
