Confused asparagus

I have a confused asparagus plant! The foliage eventually died down last year, was cut down and mulched - and now it is shooting up again. Do you think I should to cut it down when it grows a bit more, or leave it to take its chances with the frosts when they arrive?
Any advice gratefully received abd a Happy New Year and Happy Gardening to you all.

Leave it and see. Perhaps put it under fleece or cloches.

I'll check mine next time I'm home in the light (Sat?)

Mine are doing the same - they were from seed in 06 and are putting out pencil thick white spears - hope they are not going to waste valuable energy doing this too early. PS I haven't got round to cutting down the ferns yet - they are only about 18inches tall - some of the ferns are still green.

Also some of my raspberries are shooting up new growth?

Im a bit new to asparagus - all the info available says protect shoots from frost. If the shoots do catch a frost will it just kill that shoot and regrow later or will it seriously damage the plant?

The ones I have just planted were showing signs of shooting and we will no doubt have frost soon. I have planted and mulched with straw anything else I need to do?

It could encourage rotting into the crown if you didn't cut it clean later... but apart from that you seem to be doing the right things

Thanks for the advice - I will keep on mulching and hope that we get a cold snap which might slow down growth. If it continues to be a persistant little plant it will have to go under a large water bottle cloche, but I don't have many so I hope the rest of the plants don't follow suit!
