I have just received my tub of Flubenvet from the Domestic Fowl Trust but how on earth do I work out how much to give just 3 hens.  On the tub there are does for a 1000 :o :o
I would like to give them the 7 doses in some cooked veg and mash so I know they are getting it, as I find if you put it in with their pellet feed as with Poultry Spice, half of it sinks to the bottom of the feeder.  I don't want to over dose them as I am sure this could be dangerous.

I fed mine with layers mash so found it mixed in well!

I had 3 chickens at the time and weighed out 1kg of mash per bird... so 3kg in total - kept this separate and mixed in the flubevet. The feed then lasted exactly 7 days to the last crumb!  Perfect dosage... I did give the bag a shake and mix before i used it each day too to make sure.

I think if feeding it with cooked veg and mash you wont beable to dose very well... one of my hens is very greedy when it comes to treats and she would get much more than her fair share.

Thanks OO but how on earth did you work out how much to put in for your three.  I was hoping that it would say something along the lines of, 1 teaspoon per 10 birds.  Maybe I'm being very thick but the amount must be tiny.

Well looking at my tub it looks like just  1.2gm per 1kg of food.
about 1/2 a level teaspoon to 1kg of food ( I think)
It dose say older hens eat more so give them more than what they would normaly eat.
Good idea of OO to use layers mash and make up a weeks potion.
good luck

many thanks Teresa, that's what I was after.  Don't have that info is on my tub, or I couldn't see it but then the print is so tiny I had to use a magnifying glass to read it anyway ::)
when I was younger I couldn't imagine not being able to read something without the help of a magnifying glass ;D

I know what you mean about not being able to read, Tesco's reading glasses worked for me ha ha.
Tub says for chickens and geese 120g medicates 100kg of feed.
so think I have worked it out right double check.
It does say if the ground is infested with  worms to do them again at 3 weekly intervals for 7 days.

Hi ya,

I was going to say mix 1 tspoon with 2kg. To make it stick to the pellets and not fall to the base of the feed tray mix in cod liver oil a spoonful usually works. The chickens like the fish oil too.

Did you see the article in practical poultry on all the different worms and there cycles, theres loads of them, bit yeeuk.

I put stanosan on the floors inside and out as it is good at killing loads of bugs and keeps down the smell too.
