Yep, I do 7pm - 7am nights every other week don't think your body ever fully get used to it.  but its not too bad as i only work Tues, Weds & Thurs nights then i am off for the rest of the week, it's the best shift system i have ever worked 4 days off every week.

 ;D ;D ;D

Just home from a night shift! I do a strange rota and work 3 or 4 nights in a row, also do lates and earlies (yuk) and I love it! I have days off in the week so get to the shops when they are not so busy, and have time at the plot when I am sometimes the only person there.

I am not a morning person so it suits me. The only problem is that cos I work on all sorts of different days, I am not always sure just what day it really is. People tell me that this is not unusual for people of my age, shifts or not!

loads of years ago when I was nursing I worked nights - 3 nights on, 3 off but then would do extra shifts if there was illness/holiday time on the opposite shift, so sometimes might work a straight 9 nights. Can honestly say I never got used to it. Worked 9.00pm - 7.30am, home at 8, dinner in the oven (as you do when you've worked a full day), glass of wine or two while it was cooking (again, as you do when you've worked a full day?), roast lamb & loads of veggies about 9.30, bed about 10, awake again about 2.30pm....did it for the 6 months I'd set myself cos I was pretty broke at the time. Geriatric ward. They say where there's muck there's brass? Well, shovelled a lot of s***, but made a lot of money. ;D

i work two nights a week....and post some weird replies on here at strange hours. i hate working nights, really really hate it. but i've got two boy's ages 5 & 8 and it's the easiest way to work around them. i tried putting them into school ..working ..and being at the gate when they came out, but had to do a couple of evenings to make up the money. they were off school on holiday soooo much, i felt i didn't see them.

this way i'm up all day, go to work when they're in bed and come home in time to get them to school, get a few hours sleep and i'm at the gate (sometimes with my pj's on) with a smile plastered on my face, for 3 o'clock.

they won't always be small, and i don't want to miss it. when the bags get too big under my eyes i pull my pony tail a wee bit tighter.........homemade face lift. ;D

I do 9x12 hour night shifts every 5 weeks, I love it but I can usually grab 3 or 4 hours sleep while I'm on shift ;D

i do 7 nights on and 7 off 2100-0800 and i do find it a nice way to work as i cant get up in the mornings ether
but the best part is i do get to see alot of my family comperd to when i was fishing then i was away for 7 days and back for 2
so yes it is hard but very worth it

ps yes strange times and some times very strange posts ::) also my last night now for a week ;D :D

My OH does shiftwork, Saturday was 1pm till 2am, last night 6pm till 3am, then he will do an early 7am till 6pm, or a day 9pm till 6.30 PM, think I get as confused as him!  (but he is off today and tomorrow, hurrah!)
He is finding that the ahem older he is getting the less he can lay in, sleeping about 5 hours, but we loves it cos it means we get days off together during the week, otherwise I would never see him!

Never had to do night shifts, thankfully. I think it's very much an individual thing; of people I've known, some have no problem at all, others just don't adjust properly.

At the moment I'm mostly not sleeping 'til after midnight, then getting up late and getting into department for a bit before 10am. This is mainly owing to OH having been rather uncomfortable during second and early third trimester, particularly at night, thus tending to avoid going to be until late, then cat napping during the day while I'm out. It's no real problem, but it really doesn't suit me - I'm very much a morning and evening person, and pretty rubbish in the afternoon. It's probably psychological since it doesn't seem to make much difference how much I've slept that night.
Let's be clear though, I'm not really grumbling - reserving that for when the little one arrives!

I think if it were feasible I'd probably be happiest to get up at 6am, lunch at 11:30, sleep from 1pm to 4 or 5, then do more stuff until quite late.  Sort of like the southern european working day I suppose, but without the intollerable climate.

I've done night shifts in the past, hated it, and wouldn't ever do it again. Decent hours and long holidays are the big plus in my job.

I have to work 12 hour night shifts :( When I first started doing them it was not a problem but now, I hate them! finished yesterday morning and I have felt rubbish ever since!
I guess I'm unlucky in some ways as I have to work a mixture of days and nights, next week I shall be working 3 days followed by 4 nights (yep 84hrs!) my better half usually goes out after I finish that lot :) on the plus side the shifts do pay really well, and we get 7 straight days off a month!

Regards

Matt
