BBC1 this morning...allotments are trendy

Anyone see the Breakfast BBC thingy today ?

Apparently allotments are the new big trend in town. Waiting lists of 15 years etc ??

tut...only taken my 30 odd years.  Does that mean my purple draylon flares will be trendy again?  ;D

Think I fit right into this one! In my 30's, got an inner-city plot for the firsttime a year ago. Like the woman in this morning's slot (yes I saw that too!) I just want some fresh air when I slope out of the office.

But, I like to think my influence is my much mentioned mum, who has had a plot for as long as I remember and used to take us potato picking when we were very tiny and would feed us throughout much of the winter on home grown veg! :)

Used to be the case that I had to be quite defiant about being a lotty luvva when discussing "hobbies" - could see them thinking choochter and boooring but now - Hallelujah - I say smugly Oh Yes we've had an allotment for years!  Lovely feeling.

Seriously, just glad more people are getting wise to it, the more the better and the more secure the allotment sites will be from the developers.

There's even ART about allotments now - Mysticmog and I went to an evening of songs and performances about allotments last autumn done by a lady who had visited lots of allotments, taken lots of pix and written some really good songs about them - it was fab!!!

And I am so completely in the "new allotment holder" bracket it is untrue...

Apparently Tate Britain are doing a show on gardening - Tracy Emin is doing a garden shed - mmmmm..... I wonder what she'll put in it!

Cripes Ceri!  That might be one for the Water'shed' (get it...water SHED).

Moving swiftly on does this mean that it allotment gardening may now be trendy enough for the BBC to do a series?  Wouldn't it be nice to be shown the warts and all allotment sites a lot of us have plots on rather than the prisitne and manicured 'we have a waiting list of three thousand' types!

I can feel myself going off on one here, so perhaps I'll just go dig out my Prada wellies!
