Just to say Hello

Hello everybody, sorry it's taken me so long to come and introduce myself.
Not a lot to say really, everybody on heer seems to be doing wonderful things with their growing spaces, I feel a bit of a fraud.....I have a smallish garden, in Norwich....it was a bit of a tip, when I moved in here six years ago, so I proceeded to flatten it and tried to make it into something I would enjoy sitting in....it's not wonderful, and the weeds have nearly got me beaten, but I quite like it, it is mainly lawns and flower borders, and a tiny pond, now the worst is done I hope I can glean some useful information from you folks.....and improve it somewhat ;)

Now "the worst is done" I'm wondering how long it will take you before you'll be growing climbing french or runner beans along with your sweet peas, carrots with your marigolds, cherry tomatoes in your hanging baskets, Egyptian Walking Onions with your alliums...... ;)  ......and you've lawnS? Now whoever needs more than one? Go on, get the fork and spade out - you know you want to ;D

Yep! My bet is that this time next year that garden of yours will have changed a lot ;)

yeah, you've got weeds!! now you know you belong here  ;D. you already grow flowers, thats great, have a look at chrisg's posts. he's got the bug too. dig a wee tiny bit of grass over over, just a wee itsy bitsy square............and you're off. Hi  Scouser. Welcome to A4A. Lots of very knowledgeable folk on here. Like you I just have a small garden but  unfortunately at the moment it looks like the local tip. I am in the process of getting rid of  a row of very high conifers. Have been lopping off branches and they are strewn over the garden.  Come the spring I think I will have it licked and return to something that looks like a garden again ??? ::)

Hello Lorna....my garden is about 30'x15' when I moved in here, apart from the fact that the builders had been using a cement mixer, and had left piles of sand concrete and gravel......there were about 15 various types of conifers, as well as two very ancient overgrown laurel hedges,  and the house had been empty for some time, so you have my sympathy.  Isn't it amazing how big one smallish tree is once it's on the ground?

That's a very pretty garden Scouser with very little space for veggies as far as I can see.  However I live in Norwich too & know there are quite a few allotments going begging so I suggest you get yourself down to City Hall and bag one.

Thank you all once again, I am sure my garden is going to improve greatly with all the helpful advice I can glean from here.  I'm not sure your gardens are going to benefit very much from my advice, I'm just a learner, sorry.

I do have plans for runner beans and tomatoes next year, and hopefully some new potatoes in containers, and I have heard that cabbages do very well in the flower beds :)

Just one purple sprouting brocoli plant will add height to your border 8) and keep you in the green stuff through early spring....of course, for symmetry, you could plant two? :D

it'a a well known fact in the gardening world that you shoul plant in odd numbers so you HAVE to plant at least 3 ;D

OK OK I get the message....onion sets in the petunia bed.....I'll sit amongst the cabbages and pee-....sorry peas, purple sprouting broccoli giving hieght in my borders........where will it end ;D

It ends with a nice edging border of lollo rosso,  ;D of course
