Hello! I am a newbie and came across this site through a google search  ;D I don't currently have an allotment but I am working on it. Over the last 2 years I have started growing a variety of fruit, herbs and veg in our garden and I am getting quite addicted!

Welcome Sparkly and look forward to seeing you around here. It's a great place to be. I don't have an allotment either and since my OH became a gardener by profession I'm not growing veg (except as advisor), but I haven't been evicted! CLx

here's a selection of photos. This year I have grown potatoes, tomatos, carrots, broad beans, runner beans, peas, beetroot, chillis, cucumber and a variety of herbs. I am a bit of a novice at this, although I have previously had a successful herb garden. Most things have grown really well. The broad beans were not great though!

I am really pleased with it! I planted rows of carrots, beetroot and spring onions in feb/march time and hardly of them came up at all. I think I got about 2 beetroot and that was it (out of a whole packet of seeds). I then planted another set of seeds in very small pots and planted the seedlings in the garden and that seemed to work better. I had to do the same with the carrots! Nothing has seemed to bother any of my plants pest wise - except black fly on the broad beans. Like I said I don't really know what I am doing it is all trial and error!

CotswoldLass

Looks fablous Sparkly! Next year prick out your broad beans - heklps avoid black fly. Tips for peas? Have neer had any success with peas which is a shame as I love them!
