...............unlike many varieties, holding its size right up to the top.

Supposed to be one of the most profitable in it's day, hence the name, if small tomatoes don't fetch as much at sale that would explain it Tim... very impressed!

Certainly tastes good. But much uneven ripening. As with so many 'beefs'.

I believe it was by selling the plants, not the fruit, that the breeder managed to pay off his mortgage. He was a plumber as far as I can remember and he payed off $6000 in 6 years or so, not bad going for the 1930s

Thanks MT as I frquently say about myself, massive intellect.. head full of sh** or other word for organic fertilisers!

WOW, they are great.  I've got very large Brandy Wine, but they are only on the bottom up to mid height, it is as if they run out of energy the nearer the top they get!  Do the Mortage Lifters have good flavour?
Tread softly or you'll tread on my dreams.....Yeats

Initially I said I was disappointed but , as they got going, yes - they live up to their reputation. Can't compare them with Brandywine - haven't grown them.

Tim - what do you use for fertilising your GH plants? How much and how often? The ML's look amazing :) I believe your success must be due to the amount of space you can allot each plant. In my mini-lean-to GH plants are crammed in. Next year I plan to halve the number of toms, cucs and peppers to see if I can get better results.

I'm sure it helps to have space. We used only to have a 6x8 lean-to, now mainly used for propagating.

Food? It's a Vitax 'growers' soluble feed, but any proprietary make with a similar NPK ratio would do. Ours is 2-1-4, & I use it with every watering, diluted to suit.
