I bought a packet of mixed squash and pumpkin seed from Seeds of Italy and started a thread to try and identify the seeds. http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/joomla/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,57/topic,18605.msg192089#msg192089 All were numbered and I planted 6 out on my plot.  Unfortunately, I then lost the list with the numbering  :(!

The packet includes:
Marina of Chioggia
Padana
Long of Naples
Berrettina Piacentina
Quintale
Butternut Rugosa
Tromba d'Albenga
Sicilian Snakes
Custard White
Vegetable Spaghetti

Some have fruits now, so here are my guesses:

1 Berrettina Piacentina?

2 Vegetable spaghetti?

3 ?????

4 Long of Naples?

5 No fruit yet, but flowers are white so this MUST be the Sicilian snakes (cuccuzze)

6 Only male flowers so far.  Small yellow flowers, smallish plant with climbing tendrils.  Custard white, Tromba d'Albenga or Butternut Rugosa????

When does Marina di Choggia get warty? I was hoping number 3 might be Marina di Choggia, but now I suspect it's Quintale (although the plant is not as vigoruos as some of my other pumpkins) or perhaps Padana. Is Marina di Choggia turban shaped? In that case it could be number 1. The shapes can look very deceptive from a picture on a seed packet!

I would think number one is your chiogga - http://www.lacourgerie.com/marina.jpg

Number 2 looks like the veg spaghetti I have grown.

no 4 could be tromba d'albenga.

Custard whites are nice patty pans, and they will be quite obvious from a very young age - squat flying saucers!  And quintales are proper little pumpkins, so again, reasonably obvious;D

I reakon number 3 could be Padana.....

Thanks Emma Jane. I'd been looking at the courgerie website just before reading your message ;). Great pictures!
Number 4 has a slightly stripey appearance so it could well be Pandana.

Oh! My marina looks like yours Dandelion, and I was convinced it was a turks turban cos there are no warts yet! So there is hope! :D

Woo hoo, what a lovely site for next year dandelion, thank you :)

I don't know how easy it is to order from the UK. It looks like they send you an invoice with the seeds and then you have to pay by bank transfer. Great for browsing though, especially as this site lists the ripening AND storage time for every squash.

Did you see this page Supersprout ;)? http://www.kcb-samen.ch/shop/product.php?cPath=18&products_id=909963 Bit steep for one seed!

I'm growing an unknown Kaboucha/Buttercup Squash very popular in NZ. I collected the seeds from ones I bought in the supermarket and all but two germinated and grew. However they haven't been bred for seed so they're not all coming out true to type. My two best ones about 12 cm across at the moment. However my allotment neighbour sprayed his weeds and got two of my plants so unless i'm very lucky i will lose these two.
That swiss site is brilliant, I might order from there next time as collected seeds don't come true to type. You have to fertilise by hand and then put a rubberband round the female flower after to prevent crossing.

Please don't tell me about any more sites, my husband is already threatening to block gardening and seed catalog websites on our computer!  ;D I buy too many seeds, especially squashes.  :-[
This year it's squash.
