Just started taking the occasional shallot now and I have noticed that for every 4 or so fully formed shallot I have an underformed clove like shallot.

Whats best to do with these - plant out next year, eat or throw?

It depends what mood I'm in; if I can be bothered to peel them I eat them. Otherwise I throw them. I only plant the biggest bulbs for next year.

I use the small ones first, they peel very easily while fresh.

Shallots are great, such great yields.

I would peel and eat it myself.

I grew shallots for the first time this year. I'm very pleased with them (mine were Red Sun from Wilko). Biggest one is as big as onion and I didn't do anything really apart from planting (didn't even water them much)! :D

Sorry for hijacking but I have a question. The leaves started to turn yellow from the tip. Can I harvest it now or should I wait until the leaves have died back completely? ???
