Well, yesterday was the Summer show for the Danbury and Little Baddow Horticultural Society.  Due to me not getting my act together, and not knowing it even existed, I wasn't able to take part, however, we did go for a looksie, and I joined whilst there which means I can take part in the September Autumn show.  Mrs Chapman from our site won lots of first, for her lettuce, Broadbeans and other veggies.  Some amazing floral displays, and cakes to die for!

So Lish, when is your show?  Anyone else taken part in any this year?

EJ, I didn't :-[ It happened in the middle of our heatwave 2 Sats ago & I was too hot to go. My 86yr old client got 10 firsts & as one of those was for her arrangement of bush roses which I'd pruned last year & which produced abundantly at just the right time this year, praps I got a 1st by default? :P

My local council are having their first "Produce Show" for years, this year in the middle of August. I am not entering anything but I am involved in the committee organising our Allotment Stand.  We are going around the Site early in August looking for things people are willing to donate, to make it up. Just hope there is enough good stuff around then.  :-\ busy_lizzie

Our early summer show was on the 1st July and after last year, they were pondering shutting it down and just having the late one in September unless more people joined in. So I thought I would (for a laugh) and got 3/3 in mixed fruit  ::) 2/4 in gooseberries  :) and 1/7 with my cues in any other veg! ;D ;D

Don't know what will be ready for the late show - I might have monster red cabbages but wouldn't want to pick any as the idea is to have them fresh at Christmas. Sweetcorn might be ready by then, ditto small cabbages. Beetroot maybe too.

I am hoping to have runner beans and monster marrows by then MB.  Also apples .  Don't know what else.....going to bake a cake, and make some jam.  ;D  Daughter number one plans to take part in the under 16 section!

ooh I'd forgotten about the jam! But that's usually the preserve (ha!) of the ladies whose menfolk do the veg.

Very old-fashioned definitions of roles in the hort soc... I'm half waiting for the Chair to patronise me some day. I hope he can duck...

I am soooo tempted to challenge it. Been doing it all my life so why stop now? :)

MB, I so wish you were on our committee, a principal member of our committee would be a great person for you to practice on.  ;D busy_lizzie
