Nice picture. How tall is the flower spike?

I was very taken with the Eremurus robustus at RHS Hyde Hall last week - they have a few hundred growing amongst shrub roses, with the flower spikes maybe 8-10ft high. There is a high conifer hedge behind them which gives a nice background for the flowers.

Thanks,

Mine are only just over the metre tall and as I've not staked them, they lean towards the sun so aren't quite as spectacular heightwise as I'd hoped - next year :)

I have to make do with a green painted fence to set hem off but it works.

These are first year from bought dry corms(roots).

Palustris

one of the few plants which the hens totally destroyed. No ideas why!
Gardening is the great leveller.

Oo, I am going to Hyde Hall on Monday, as I only live 2 minutes away.  Looking forward to seeing those glorious flowers!

Had a bit of a disaster later - I had to gently ( and I mean gently) move one of the leaning ones aside so I could stake a flopping Alstomeria, and the whole plant broke >:(.

I assume that without the greenery, it will not build new stores for next year.  I was planning to get lots more in as they do so well in my soil - dry, sandy free draining in full sun amended with lots of stable manure - may sadly have space for one more.  They didn't all grow this year & three in a pot rotted, while three others in another have done ok, but not well.  They will be into the ground in the autumn.
