Hi all! :D

As most of you are aware, the allotment site where my lotty resides is only 150m from the end of the runway at Birmingham International Airport, separated by a public park.  A freight plane crash landed at 6am yesterday morning.  I went past on my way to the Allotment yesterday, so I took a few photos.  Here they are.

For those of you who may be unaware, a TNT freight plane crash landed here after being diverted on it's way to Stanstead.  Fortunately the 2 crew were uninjured.  As they say, any landing from which you can walk away is a good landing!  ;D

Btw TNT is the name of the company.  It wasn't carrying Trinitrotoluene explosive, as far as I'm aware... :o ;D

Sheldon, Birmingham.  I've put the pin on Google Earth where my shed is, in the allotments.  It's in an area with a satellite photo which is cool!  You can't miss it, there's a bl**dy great big Airport next door!

Heard abt it on the radio, Dave...whatsabout you altering your profile, like..."can't miss it. There's a bloody great big AIRCRAFT next door"?  ;D

tim

Reminds me of that awful day when I landed wheels up at night. NOT a thing to be repeated.

MutantHobbit

Well, you're still here to tell the tale, Tim!  ;);D  Bet you received a right rollicking though, if it was during training, or did you pancake it when you were on ops?

As long as it isn't on your allotment it isn't a problem, I remember the one that fell short of east midlands and landed on the M1 about 15 -20 years ago, now that was a mess. And about fourteen years ago when one fell short at Coventry, as you say if you can walk away it was a GOOD landing!
;D

Yes - Court Martial!!

But we all ten of us managed to hitch a lift to a shindig in the Mess & got home rather late. In flying kit!!

OMG Dave, somehow you never imagine it is going to happen near you. Thanks heavens no one was injured. It is rare one for the album,  and thankfully not an every day sight - good pics though.  busy_lizzie
live your days not count your years

Good to hear it didn't get in the way of a good session in the Mess, Tim.   ;)

Saddad, Busy, I agree with your sentiments entirely, first time I remember it happening in 30 odd years of living next door to the airport, and it could have been far messier, especially if it had overshot...  Vegetables everywhere!  Usually just get the odd wheel of light aircraft turning up in the vicinity.

Fortunately, there are only a handful of houses directly under the flightpath in the immediate vicinity of the airport, which were built in the late 40's, early 50's, when Birmingham Airport was only an aerodrome, and our allotments act as a buffer for them.  Rum though, those of us who live so near to the airport live with the knowledge that something like this can potentially happen, but we just get on with life, barely acknowledging the fact.  Bit weird seeing it parked on the runway and being removed, all from the block of flats where I live!
