So much for preaching -

- just put out plants from THREE sowings of Beet & FOUR sowings of Lettuce.

And 3 sowings of Carrots have failed. And you take my advice??

Hmmm, you haven't seen my failures Tim, they are enough to drive a person to despair ...
The impossible is just a journey away ...

i have to admit that i find succesional cropping and sowing a bit tricky, guess experience is the key.

tim

Experience, sarah?. Just how old do you have to be before you get it !!

Tim, I have not managed to germinate a bought or seed exchange seed for nearly 5 years and YOU complain!
I can get my own saved seeds to grow, but other stuff, never!
Gardening is the great leveller.

I can get it to grow - just the chooks eat them before i can plant out! grrr

Good luck next time tim - you must feel so frustrated.

I remember i grew carrots a few years back - didnt dig up the soil, when i checked the carrots were about 4mm wide and about 6mm long - very unedible! LOL

Meg

So pleased my carrots are absent one beetroot has shown willing and for the first time absolutely no parsnips!!!!!!!!
Never mind Tim we still like your advice. I supose we could all just go and buy stuff from shops and then walk out from lottie as tho we had grown them. Might come to that.

I think ignorance is the way to go, as over the past 3 years, have had 50+% germination rate on everything, both veg and flower, and I count myself as a complete novice.

Only thing I failed to germinate at all was primula denticulata seeds, and they have to be very fresh to work, won't hang around at all.

It's the luck of the draw isn't it? You can do absolutely everything right and still get nothing!

Very rewarding!
