Hi,
I have a courgette that I planted out a short while ago. I had it under a cloche until very recently, where I've realised it's got what I *think* is powdery mildew (but new to this game, so maybe it's not... hmm). Anyway, supposing that's what it is, does it harm the plants/fruit or is it just unsightly? Thanks a lot to any help in advance.  :)

Hi CC, you can try this.  Plants that are susceptible to mildew, such as peas, pumpkin and cucumber can benefit from a milk spray. (No kidding!) Use equal parts of milk and water and spray every few days until the mildew is under control. If the situation is out of control, either remove the affected leaves or the whole plant or destroy it. Don't put it in your compost as it may spread the problem.

That's interesting about the milk spray, I'll definitely give it a go, thanks!

Just out of curiosity, how does the mildew affect the fruit itself?

Many thanks.

Yep milk works! sounds odd but I worked wonders for my peas!! I added a little washing up liquid too.

use skimmed milk though - the full fat and semi skimmed clogged up my spray nozzle!

I wouldn’t worry too much about powdery mildew on the leaves â€" seem to get at least some leaves like this every year. I don’t treat them â€" the plants don’t seem to be too affected by it. Just ensure good air circulation (which they should now have if planted outside) and keep them well watered.
