Managed to coax these into growing on my arbour and patio last year, so now I'm goig to tempt fate and try again, having had years of failure... off to file the seed coat and soak over night....

You don't need to do either - just sow in moist compost and keep warm (over 20 degrees C). Works for me every year....

my slugs like my MGs  :'(

i've only managed to save about 6 seedlings despite, egg shells and spikey collars   :-[

I have to let them get to about two feet tall before I dare put them out, and even then I loose about a third, sow lots!
If I let them get stronger so the stems start to harden then the usually outgrow slug damage to the leaves... it is when they chew through the whole stem...

88 seed, one failed to germinate and I broke one trying to plant it, all in thimble pots, yes I know I should not have soaked them that long but was sidetracked by four hours watering after that dry patch...

I grew one in my conservatory a couple of years back ..... never again :o

It grew and it grew and it grew, after 70 foot i stopped measuring it. :o  ::)

It was scary you would actually see it grow from the corner of your eye, really odd, you could hear it in the evening unfolding and stetching and then you would see it ping and another stretch would unfold.

It has the most beautiful flowers but we almost had to move house to give it its own house space.... lol

My other half has banned me from growing it again.... ;D

Try one in secret, but don't keep it in the Conservatory! Outside they rarely exceed 10'

We had some last year in pots.   

I put the used compost on the allotment and  now have small morning glories growing there this year.    They appeared about tow days ago.  Not sure how happy they'll be if things turn chilly...

are you certain Flossie, the dreaded bindweed is almost identical at this stage and does set and self sow seeds on my allotments!
