Mysterious Grass type plant with green strappy but tough leaves. In the second photo this plant has grown some kind of flower head like a orangey yellow grass flower (very soft and silky to touch!)don't know if that makes sense. I have tried to capture this grain type flower in the second shot but it's not clearly visible.
Is this a plant or weed?
Please help.

Palustris

Saves going to the link.
Certainly a Carex. You can check, if the flowering stems are three sided then it is a carex for sure.
Gardening is the great leveller.

Hey palustris, thats very handy, thankyou  ;D

ACE

Best place for it is in the pot. I think the stuff is a d**n nuisance. I inherited it in my garden and it still rears it ugly head now and again.

Garden Manager

What do the seedlings of it look like? I have some seed sown in a pot of Carex pendula. somethng has come up but I dont know what!

Thanks

jennym

The seedlings of Carex pendula look remarkably similar to the older plant. Must say though, I agree with ACE on this. Had one plant in a pot at the back of the garden. No problems for about 3 years and then - POW! seedlings everywhere, a real nuisance.

OH had a thing about Ornamental Grasses a few years ago, we still can't eradicate them from the allotment, and I thought couch was bad!
:-X

Garden Manager

And here's me trying to grpw them!  Hmm

Though a lottie isnt quite the place for ornamentalgrases is it?

I am incredibly fortunate to have the allotment over my back fence, and four other plots on the same site! OH said I couldn't have one unless it was behind the house as she would never see me but she has got the bug even worse than me now!
;D
