Never again !!!

As some of you were aware, I ran the Shakespeare Marathon today in Stratford-upon-Avon, along with my son Matthew.

I finished in 4h23, my son a shade later. Both of us found the going harder than expected, but the achievement was well worth the effort. It is impossible to describe the private hell on earth that is experienced during an event of this sort, but neither of us regrets having decided to do it. My son is already talking about doing a better performance next year (arghhh !), I guess I will just cheer him on.

Of course, a charity will benefit from our efforts, details in my Signature ...

I would like to thank everyone who has shown confidence in our commitment, and passed good wishes, and hope to post some pictures when I have some strength! At the moment I am relaxing with my feet up and a well earned beer  :D

Congratulations Curry and a fantastic first timers time.  A GREAT achievement.   ;D

In a few weeks time you will have forgotten the pain and remember just the thrill of completion.  I can assure you, you will want to do it again... (from one with some experience of "I will never do that again", which has reverted to "I would like to do it again..." - both a cross country marathon and the Pennine Way...)

Puzzled, tho.....why didn't you and your son stay together?

On the Moon Walk we were a group of eight....four US gals and four Brits. The US girls had only arrived the day before & there was a bit of jet lag for a couple, but there was no way we were going to split from them - reckoned they needed all the support (literally!) they could get :D

Alishka, my son and I never ran together because he always ran twice as fast as me! However, despite my own personal exhaustion, I did nip back after I finished to run him in at the end. There was a lot of cameraderie amongst the runners though, we all shared with those running at our own pace.

Licking my wounds now, I have come away relatively unscathed. No blisters, one very sore right nipple (despite globs of vaseline !) and a few damaged toenails (just for Heldi !). And sore muscles of course and a rather inflated ego ..
