Too many seed potatoes

I got a bit enthusiastic on Potato Day and have lots of leftover seed potatoes. I've slotted them into anything resembling a container but is there anything I can do with the spares I just can't find room for?  Or should I just eat them, chits and all?

Do not think they will be to good for eating now emma but, on the other hand they might be. If it was me I think I would give them away to some one who Will grow them on.

Have you included burying the left over potatoes in rubble sacks? Then "earthing them up" as the shoots appear until they reach the top? The sacks can be placed in odd corners out of the way, then tipped out for harvesting. The usual bin bags are not strong enough.

I accidently dropped my spare chitted King Edwards into holes I found on the empty plot next to mine. I accidentally dropped three rows of them.  ;)

You might try a little gurilla gardening for yourself if you find a bit of space no one else wants. And if someone decides that they do want it then they gain a few free spuds to start them off. Its all good.

An interesting effect of this is that I can`t earth these spuds up `cus I don`t want the plot to look worked so I might find out what the yields are like when you don`t earth up.

(Actually I`m bugging the council for the empty half plot next to mine `cus my plot is full or will be when I put all my seedlings out.)

If I don`t hear from them I might accidentally drop a few pumpkin plants and sweetcorn in a few weeks.  :-X

I always thought that seed potatoes were treated with a fungicide so it would not be a good idea to eat them.    :(

I can think of a few places actually they might accidentally be able to end up...and I'd be helping sort the ground for the next tenant wouldn't I? ;D

Oopps I accidently did the same, accidently dropping a few in to holes that were there by co-incidence.   By the allotment site wall... must be alien influences to control my brain to do such accidental things..... ;D

I also bought far too many but it did make me do a lot more work on my lottie, and I do have the space (13 rods) so it wasn't a bad thing after all. Anyone know the number for Walkers crisps potato buying dept?

Slightly off topic, I have often thought about planting the odd few "Torbay Palm" seedlings from my resident tree, also thought of planting a few banana plants here and there just to give our community a touch of the "Exotics" ;D 8)

I've got a lot of seed potato, but I wanted to know what varities I like so bought a lot of a lot.

I've planted a long row of each variety and I will put the rest on freecycle.

If they are earlies, might it be possible to put them in the fridge for a few months and plant them as 'second croppers' later in the summer? About August?

Is it possible to have too many seed potatoes? OH has planted nearly 40 Kg including some for our 89 yr old neighbour. We do have 5 odd sized allotment plots.... we have literally lost the plot!
