Started off on Monday when I went to the opticians - new glasses £473 and that was with the cheapest frames (£90). How do these companies think that'san affordable price for most people, and that was after £25 for the eye test. So off I go trolling round the other two opticians in the town, Specsavers wanted £347 and finally the posh looking independant came up with the 'best' price £270, still one heck of a sum.

Tuesday noticed a huge area of grey hair so off to Superdrug to get some haircolour, while I was there I treated myself to an electric toothbrush, to try and cheer myself up.

Today, I noticed a crown on my front tooth felt a bit odd, and it's loose.   :-X

As I haven't been able to get a NHS dentist and can't afford a private one I bit the bullet and phoned the Dental hotline, they amazed me by offering me an appointment in an hour and a quarter -at a dentists at the other end of the county - nearly two hours away on a day before the Bank Holiday because of all the traffic coming in to the county.  Then offered me another appointment for Tuesday, and told me it willcost £15.50 to have it re-cemented.

I was really pleased as I'd heard so many horror stories about dental care in Cornwall. Then the lovely man told me of a new NHS dentists opening on Wednesday, said 'it's not common knowedge so go get yourself registered', now that's service.

The electric toothbrush went in the bin, that'll teach me to buy gadgets - next time it will just be a chocolate bar ;D

Hi Deeds,What is the number for the dental hotline,is it local to you or a national number, our dentist has just stopped his NHS contract,so we are without dentist  :( ,no dentists in our town accepting NHS patients, have been told to phone round again in June to see if i can get in then  >:( ,but now my tooth has started to ache(i never have trouble with my teeth,so why now i dont have a dentist? ??? )i have phoned our community dentist at the hospital who has said they can see the children but not adults!I was so looking forward to eating all that chocolate over Easter too!  ;D  Becky.

Hyacinth

I think that, if you haven't a NHS dentist nearby you're going to be forced to bite the bullet ::) Becky and check out something like Denplan for a policy. Wish I had shares in Denplan :(  Isn't your dentist 'advising' (huh!) any particular dental insurance scheme?

Deeds

Hi beckbeck,  Phone your local Primary Care Trust and ask then for the dental emergency number.  They are all local to each area,so the number I hadwouldn;t help you unless you're in the back of beyond (or Cornwall as it's commonly known). ;D

Am O.K. on the dentist front (with NHS), but those RIP OFF Opticians Deeds!
Like you I got screwed. For a pair I last paid £330.

I found the answer - go to Cyprus.
Immediate Eye test, state of the art as well. Chose the frames & in TWO DAYS got the lot. Delighted, still wear them & got the VAT back at the airport!
Cost - £130.

Damaged one lens last year & went to investigate a replacement.
I stopped the conversation at £220.

RIP OFF BRITAIN!
