Mildew on Peas

Does anyone else have problems with mildew on maincrop peas.  I always grow a row of Alderman, and this year for good measure I sowed a couple of rows of (so called) mildew resistant earlies in early July for a late crop.  By the first week of this month the Alderman were covered in mildew to the point where the plants were dying off with a lot of the pods half grown, and the others have also now succumbed in similar manner - presumably because of the heat and the drought.

In the good old days (before EU Regulations) I used to spray with Benlate at the end of July and had no problems, but now there doesn`t seem to be any suitable prevention.

Any ideas?

Sorry, Hugh, can't help with your mildew but would like to ask, why are my cucumbers still yellow and not turning green?

Are you sure they`re cucumbers, and not yellow courgettes?

Yes, Hugh, I am positive they are cue's I have been eating them for the last month or so.  I have about five still on the plant and they are quite big but haven't turned green, they are yellow.

They have been brilliant this year too, am rather disappointed, as hate the thought of having to buy them after the flavour of home grown cucumbers.

Hi Hugh, seemed to remember watering down milk and spraying for mildew on one of the organic web sites. Sprays being so expensive these days and not always working I am going back to what our parents would have used. I remember also a plant I had years ago if you chopped it up and added water you could wash clothes with ( soft soap) well. Try the organic sites some good tips HRDA? I think was one. good luck Teresa
